APOCRINE, HOLOCRINE & ECCRINE GLANDS

Apocrine glands
Apical parts of the glands shed off following secretion
eg:Atypical Sweat glands,ceruminous glands,Glands of Moll,mammary glands.

Holocrine glands
WHOLE part of the gland is destroyed following secretion
eg:Sebaceous glands

Eccrine glands/Merocrine/Epicrine glands
Glands remain intact(exocrine glands).
Majority of sweat glands are Eccrine glands.

Sweat Glands
Sweat glands are of two types.

1.Eccrine/merocrine—–>Typical sweat glands.
A)Distributed all over the body.
B)Innervated by cholinergic system.
C)Secretory portion has clear cell,dark cells,myoepithelial cells.

2.Apocrine—–>Atypical sweat glands.
A)Axilla,monspubis,circumanal area,areola and nipple.
B)Excretory ducts open into hair follicles.
Functional after puberty
C)Supplied by adrenergic nerves.
